Our Ambition

By 2035, 50% of decision makers at VC firms are currently underrepresented investors.

The current state of affairs (a few numbers to remind us of the urgency behind what we’re doing): 

• According to data collected by Diversity VC, 65% of funds in London have decision-making teams that are all-male. Roughly 3% of VCs in the UK are Black, 5% are of Mixed Heritage. Critically, very few of these are partners or operators with decision-making capability within their firms.

• A 2018 US study published in HBR on the diversity gap in the VC industry found venture capitalists were far more likely to partner with people if they share their gender or race. Belonging to the same racial group increases the propensity to work together by 39.2%, and having a degree from the same school increases it by 34.4%; the study concluded, “not only is the likelihood of collaborating on any one deal greater, but VCs tend to keep teaming up with those who share their traits”.

• Kaufman Fellows Research Centre found female VC partners invest in 2x more female founding teams at the early stages, highlighting that “the data show that female venture capitalists are dramatically increasing the chance that a women-led startup raises money and gets a shot at building a category-defining company.”
